What is airbrush tanning?

Airbrush tanning is the latest form of tanning to hit the tanning industry. It consists of applying a solution (DHA) using an airbrush that is sprayed on the body by a spray technician. The spray gun is hooked up to an air compressor and is applied much in the same form as if one were spray painting. This method is completely safe and is harmless to the body.

How long has airbrush tanning been around?
Airbrush tanning has been around for a few years mostly in the Hollywood scene with many celebrities using this method in the course of their profession. It is just now becoming a form of tanning on a commercial basis.

How does the tan work?
The DHA solution that is applied to the skin is a solution derived from sugar beets. It comes in a powdered form and then is cooked in vats by the manufacture and turned in to a liquid form. When the DHA comes in contact with the amino acids of the skin, it creates a natural chemical reaction that causes the skin to tan. This method of tanning is all done without the use of any UV rays and is completely safe and FDA approved.

What is DHA?
DHA or dihydroxiacetone is the main ingredient in the tanning solution. It is derived from the sugar beet and is a natural product.

What do I have to do before I tan?
It is recommended that before tanning, you should exfoliate using a scrub brush or a loofe enabling you to remove all the dead skin from the body. This process is needed to open the pores in the body allowing the DHA solution to enter in creating a natural tan.

How do I maintain my tan?
You should use moisturizers or after tan products on a daily basis to help maintain your tan. This will help in preserving the tan. However you must understand that the natural process of the epidermis of the skin is to transition every 5-10 days. This process occurs regardless of tanning in a bed, under the sun or using airbrush tanning.

How long does the Healthy Tan Last?
It is determined by skin type: A persons skin type will react to Healthy Tan very much like it does to the natural sun.

Also, it is determined by the amount of “wear”: Only the outermost layer of skin is “tanned”. As the skin layer is lost, so is the tan. Wear comes from: rubbing, soaking in water or long showers, tight clothing, “scratchy” clothing or bleach. You wouldn’t use an SOS pad on the finish of your new car, so don’t be abrasive to your skin and you will keep your tan longer. Finally, dry skin will shorten the life of your tan! So—Moisturize, Moisturize, Moisturize!!! It depends on you. Four to Ten days.

How often can I tan?
The body naturally recycles the skin over a period of 5-10 days regardless of what method of tanning is used. However, you can maintain the tan longer by using tanning moisturizers. Tanning can be performed every 7 days if desired.

Does tanning protect me from the sun?
NO! Airbrush tanning DOES NOT protect you from the sun. It is recommended that a sunscreen be used anytime you go out into the sun.

How long does it take?
The application process takes approximately 10-15 minutes and is applied by one of our Certified Spray Technicians (CST). Our Liquid Tropical Bronzed solution provides instant gratification while the active ingredient (DHA) starts its natural reaction to the amino acids of the skin. This process starts approximately 2 hours after the application and continues for up to 24 hours for the best and complete tan.

Is it Safe?
Absolutely! The active ingredient in the spray solution is DHA, which is derived from the sugar beet and is FDA approved.

What is the advantage of airbrush tanning?
Airbrush tanning is an alternative form of tanning. People with sensitive skin or people who have a hard time tanning, be it natural or in tanning beds will fine this form of tanning very comforting. One application with airbrush tanning will be equivalent to approximately 6 tanning bed sessions, there for making it cost effective. Airbrush tanning also spares the skin of excessive wear and tear and free from potential burns caused by the sun as have been the situation with tanners interviewed.
